Google's most popular apps are gaining AI superpowers
Today, at the Google I/O developer conference, Google chief executive Sundar Pichai pledged to use AI responsibly, by improving knowledge and learning, boosting creativity, and deploying AI responsibly to help maintain equality. Gmail has been a pioneer in predictive responses, and it's continuing with a new feature called Help Me Write. Help Me Write uses your previous history to create an email on a given topic, so you can ask for a refund on a travel reservation, using the previous email history to help negotiate a settlement. All you need to ask Help Me Write to craft the email. This feature will start rolling out as part of the company's upcoming Workspace update, Pichai said.
AI needs to deal with gender bias - or it will never reach its potential - TechNative
The past year has seen artificial intelligence (AI) become a dinner-table topic of conversation around the world, thanks to bots such as ChatGPT, which dazzles users with its ability to compose lifelike text and even computer code. But what happens when AI makes wrong decisions? Bias – and gender bias in particular – is common in AI systems, leading to a variety of harms, from discrimination and reduced transparency, to security and privacy issues. In the worst cases, wrong AI decisions could damage careers and even cost lives. Without dealing with AI's bias problem, we risk an imbalanced future – one in which AI will never reach its full potential as a tool for the greater good.

Microsoft unveils responsible AI guidelines and dashboard
Microsoft says it wants to make it easier for organizations to use and build AI technology responsibly. During its "Put Responsible AI into Practice" digital event on Dec.7, the tech giant, with Boston Consulting Group, released 10 guidelines that product leaders can use to implement AI responsibly, without bias and with visibility into the intentions of AI and machine learning algorithms. Enterprises can use the guidelines before, during, and after of the process of building AI models. Microsoft outlines the guidelines in a three-step framework that starts with using transparent processes to assess and prepare the model and weigh potential risks and benefits. The next step is design, build, and document.
How the Financial Industry Can Apply AI Responsibly
THE INSTITUTE Artificial intelligence is transforming the financial services industry. The technology is being used to determine creditworthiness, identify money laundering, and detect fraud. AI also is helping to personalize services and recommend new offerings by developing a better understanding of customers. Chatbots and other AI assistants have made it easier for clients to get answers to their questions, 24/7. Although confidence in financial institutions is high, according to the Banking Exchange, that's not the case with AI.

Time Is Ripe For Responsible AI In Aviation
In the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey', there is a chilling interaction between an astronaut – David Bowman, and a sentient computer- HAL (Heuristically programmed Algorithmic computer). I'm afraid I can't do that." The story goes that HAL learns, by reading their lips, that the astronauts are going to shut it down, fearing that it is malfunctioning. HAL then decides to kill the astronauts so that it can continue its programmed directives. The movie came out in 1968, and some of the novels in the Space Odyssey series by Arthur C. Clarke are even older.

Why you should hire a chief AI ethics officer
Multi-disciplinary knowledge: AI ethics issues cannot only be addressed through technical solutions and compliance with relevant policies, standards and laws. CAIEOs need multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills, including technical AI knowledge and perception, ethical considerations, social science and technology law familiarity, as well as business strategy know-how. They also need to facilitate the creation of tools and frameworks that enable product teams to develop AI responsibly, as well as to work with the whole company, other professional organizations and policy-makers to help shape laws, norms and standards to define and govern best practices at a global level. Effective and inclusive governance: Companies can support and provide oversight for a CAIEO by creating an AI ethics board, led by the CAIEO with representatives from all the company's divisions and with decision-making power, visibility and governance authority fully supported by the CEO and senior executives. The CAIEO can help each board member understand AI ethics solutions in their respective business units and make them part of operations.
AI Anywhere: Scaling Artificial Intelligence across the enterprise
The best use cases for AI in the last one year were found in combating the effects of the pandemic. The healthcare industry built numerous applications of AI for faster diagnosis, forecasting the spread and pattern of the disease, tracking people and their recovery, developing drugs, vaccinations, and managing the logistics. Supply chain and retail companies have used AI and cognitive automation to overcome the threats of Covid-19, as consumers faced significant challenges in shifting from physical to online mode. Besides healthcare and retail, businesses of all shapes and sizes across several sectors have adopted AI to pursue higher productivity and enhanced customer experiences. However, managing the entire charter of an organisation gets tough as AI permeates through a multitude of functions.
